Episode 4 of Study Group — titled 'Teach Me How to Fight' — opens with a backstory on the final missing piece of the puzzle: LEE JOON (Gong Do-yu). Joon's whole life has been shaped by one person — an older friend who protected him when he was young and vulnerable. That friend eventually fell into gang life and pushed Joon away to keep him safe. Ever since, Joon has been obsessed with becoming strong enough to protect the people around him. He enrolled at Yusung Technical High School specifically to rank up on Pi Han-wool's fighting app. The irony? He's genuinely terrible at fighting. His real reason for approaching Ga-min and the study group isn't academic at all — he wants Ga-min to teach him how to fight. Ga-min hears him out and shuts the door in his face immediately. The study group is for studying. Full stop. Not a dojo. Not a fighting academy. If Joon wants in, he has to prove he actually intends to study. Joon, with no better options, swears he's serious — and Ga-min sits him down right then with a math assessment test while the rest of the group goes to visit Han-gyeong at the hospital. The test results, when they come back, are surprisingly decent. Joon is smarter than anyone gave him credit for. But Joon isn't at school anymore. While he was sitting the test, Yeonbaek Gang scout OH JANG-HO (Kim Min) approached him and asked if he was Ga-min — whose reputation after defeating the school's top rankers has been making serious noise on the streets. Joon, seeing an opportunity to prove himself, immediately claimed he was. Jang-ho took him to a secluded warehouse to run the Yeonbaek Gang initiation test. Joon failed catastrophically. Jang-ho, furious at being lied to, started beating him to a pulp. Back at school, the group returns and notices Joon is gone. Geon-yeop, who had spotted Joon leave with Jang-ho, tells them what happened. Ga-min doesn't hesitate for a second. He jumps out of the fourth-floor window — literally — and sprints toward the warehouse with Ji-woo and Geon-yeop right behind him. Se-hyeon and Hee-won take the smarter route and go straight to the police station to report it. At the warehouse, they find Joon bloodied and Jang-ho and a crew of young gangsters — the show wryly captions each one with their name, age, and criminal record as they appear — surrounding him. Ga-min, Ji-woo, and Geon-yeop take them on together. Most of the crew goes down, but Jang-ho himself is a different level. Even Ga-min starts taking real damage. Then, at exactly the right moment, Ga-min stops performing his usual tricks — and pulls out the move his uncle specifically told him never to use. A forbidden technique. He sends Jang-ho crashing through a stone wall. As they try to leave, one of Han-wool's henchmen attempts to run Ga-min and Joon down with a car. Ga-min yanks Joon clear at the last second. Se-hyeon and Hee-won arrive moments later with Detective NA TAE-MAN (Shim Woo-sung) and the police, who arrest Jang-ho and the others. Joon is loaded into an ambulance — injured, but alive. Tae-man scolds the kids for getting involved directly instead of calling him first, but it's clear he respects what they did. He gives them his card and tells them to call him next time. One fleeing gang member mutters something about Geon-yeop's mother on his way out — and Geon-yeop disappears after him without a word. In the aftermath, Han-gyeong recovers and returns to school. She confronts the principal directly, calling him out for deliberately ignoring Pi Han-wool's involvement in everything that has happened, and files an official report. Meanwhile, the study group creates their group chat and officially welcomes Lee Joon. For the first time, all five members sit down together to actually study — and the found-family dynamic that will carry the rest of the season quietly clicks into place. The study group is now officially complete. Han-gyeong submits the paperwork — and in a move nobody expected, adds two extra names to the official member list: PI HAN-WOOL and LEE HYEON-WOO. She hasn't given up on either of them. Han-gyeong then announces their first group activity: a field trip to visit a study group at a prestigious school in Seoul. The episode ends on a comedic cliffhanger — Ji-woo accidentally sent Ga-min the wrong school name with a typo, and Ga-min, characteristically literal-minded, is already marching through the front gates of the completely wrong school with full confidence and zero doubt.
