📖 Episode Synopsis

Episode 6 is where The Apartment Job stops being a con story and becomes something considerably more dangerous. The heating bill scandal that Hae-gang stumbled onto in Episode 5 is not a side plot. It is the thread that, once pulled, unravels enough of the building's hidden structure to put him directly in the path of the man who has been waiting for him to get there. The episode opens with the most urgent problem still unresolved: Jang Sook-jin knows too much. She has been watching the Intermittent Family since their arrival, and she is now close enough to the truth that Hae-gang and Ha-ri cannot simply outrun her. Their first move is theatrical — a carefully staged display of domestic warmth, enough physical convincingness to make the marriage look real. Sook-jin watches it all, unmoved. Hae-gang pivots. On the spot, he invents a new explanation: the family came together not as a real household but as a private investigation unit, looking into irregularities in the apartment's maintenance fees. The lie works just well enough. Sook-jin gives him one week to produce results. It is not absolution — it is a stay of execution with a deadline attached. Hae-gang uses that week. Working through the maintenance records with Ha-ri, the team locates what has been sitting in plain sight for six years: 123 households on the property have been paying zero in heating costs. The bill for their share has been silently redistributed across the other 9,677 units, accumulating into an unpaid total of 1.23 billion won. Sook-jin, with the instincts of someone who has been waiting for exactly this kind of scandal, immediately gives it a name: the 123 Incident. Hae-gang calls an emergency residents' meeting, frames himself as the aggrieved victim — the heating bill martyr — and proposes both the removal of council chairman Seo Kang-won's faction and authorization to use the long-term repair reserve fund to replace the complex's broken heat meters. Kang-won and his allies deny knowledge. Lee Chung-won, watching from the front row with the calm of a man who already knows how this ends, steps forward and pledges to pay every won he owes. The room turns. The residents approve Hae-gang's proposals. Chung-won leans over afterward and tells him he was like Solomon today. What the residents do not see is what Chung-won does next. Behind closed doors, he summons Kang-won and delivers a verdict with the quiet finality of someone who has made this kind of decision before. Kang-won was given power, Chung-won tells him, and all he did with it was create a martyr. By the end of the scene Kang-won is dead, buried, and gone, and Chung-won is walking away from the site with the unhurried composure of a man who has already moved on to the next problem. That problem is Hae-gang. The episode's other revelation — delivered through Gecko's warning and confirmed when Hae-gang's crew tracks a management office executive leaving a suspicious location with bundles of cash — is that the missing 17.8 billion won reserve fund has not simply vanished. Chung-won has been cycling it between multiple apartment complexes to sustain a corruption operation far larger than anyone in True Value understood. Hae-gang follows the money to Chung-won's company headquarters. Chung-won is already there, already smiling, already holding a framed surveillance photograph of Hae-gang at the bank where the fund is held. He knows everything. He has known for longer than Hae-gang realized. The conversation that follows is the best scene in the series so far. Two men who have been circling each other for six episodes, each fully aware of what the other is doing, finally sit in the same room and say so out loud. Chung-won tells Hae-gang he won't find what he is looking for. Hae-gang tells him he already has. Then he makes a proposal no one — not Chung-won, not the audience — sees coming: he offers to become Chung-won's right-hand man. On the edges of the episode, Ha-ri faces a crisis of her own. Returning from the hospital with one of the fake family members, she is greeted by management office staff as Mrs. Park — and comes face to face with her older sister Ha-jeong, who now knows exactly what kind of job her sister has actually been working. Sook-jin, meanwhile, appears to soften for the first time since the episode began. With Hae-gang having produced real results on the corruption front, she asks him, almost gently, whether one week is really going to be enough for everything left to do.

The Apartment Job (아파트) — The hottest new K-drama of 2026 is HERE, and it's already turning heads. Park Hae-gang (Ji Sung) was once the feared boss of the Oasis Gang — a man whose zero-percent uncollected debt record was the stuff of legend. Now, desperate to raise 10 billion won to save Yong-man, the father figure who shaped his life, he hatches the most unexpected scheme of his criminal career: run for president of a luxury apartment complex's residents' association and get his hands on the building's hidden maintenance fund. What he doesn't count on is how deep the corruption goes. The penthouse CEO Lee Chung-won (Park Byung-eun) has his own dirty hands in the same fund. An accidental ally, Kang Ha-ri (Ha Yoon-kyung), a part-time law firm worker with big dreams of becoming a real lawyer, gets dragged into Hae-gang's wildly unusual campaign. And then there's the unstoppable Jang Sook-jin (Moon So-ri) — the legendary busybody neighbor who knows every secret in every apartment and is absolutely not afraid to use that information. What started as a simple heist slowly transforms into something much bigger — an all-out war against corruption, with an accidental hero at the center of it all. Fans of Vincenzo, My Sweet Mobster, or The Good Bad Mother — this one was made for you. 🎭 Director: Jo Yong-won ✍️ Writer: Kim Yoon-young 📺 Episodes: 12 Episodes (~70 min each) 🗓️ Premiered: July 11, 2026 on JTBC
