The Bear Season 5 Episode 1, "Soda", opens the final season of FX's acclaimed kitchen drama the morning after Sydney, Richie and Natalie learn that Carmy has walked away from the food industry for good. The restaurant is now theirs — along with all of its debt. Uncle Jimmy's countdown clock has already run out, and the new partners face a hard choice: find enough money to keep the lights on, or sell everything for parts and go their separate ways. As if that were not enough, a violent storm floods Chicago and the restaurant with it. Then the reservation app comes back to life, and the team realises they are completely overbooked for service while being badly short of food. The tight, roughly 21-minute premiere also gives Tina a quiet, personal moment with her signature Brussels sprouts dish, setting the tone for a season about whether this family can stand on its own without Carmy.
